Bedford Avenue, Subiaco

A new residence in an older heritage area of inner city Subiaco. The emphasis is on ground floor living on a mid-size site of 551m². With a northern orientation towards the side boundary (and a pocket park) the house plan wraps itself to the north. High volumes in the central living areas provide the opportunity for north facing highlite windows which also capture the treetop outlook.

Council planning policies dictated a pitched roof to major roof forms and a single-story representation to the street. A typical material palette in older Subiaco if often white rendered banding/detailing, coupled with red face brick. This vernacular has been re-interpreted into a contemporary form with ribbons of white steel beams wrapping the house, which is balanced with recycled face brick and grey dado plaster.
